President Sukharno
Gave Her a Name
18
he friendly visit of the President of the Republic of rT Indonesia, Dr, A. Sukharno, to Tashkent coincided with the birth of a daughter to a young couple named Urazayev.
According to custom, it is an honour to be a godparent and to give a name to a child, an honour reserved for the closest friends. The whole family gathered together and the eldest proposed that President Sukharno should be asked to choose a suitable name for the little girl.
So they sent him a telegram saying: “Your arriva] in Tashkent was a great joy to us. On that happy day for Uzbekistan, we were doubly happy — a daughter was born to us. In honour of the indissoluble friendship between the peoples of the Soviet Union and Indonesia and in honour of your visit to our city, we are asking you to choose a name for our daughter. Yours respectfully, Urazayev family.”
A few days later the Urazayev family received the reply: “Congratulations on the birth of your daughter.
I take pleasure in giving her the name of Youldous Sukharno.”
Youldous means “little star’.
This name pleased everybody, Telegrams and letters of congratulations were received from many places.
In the Urazayev family, not only Russian and Uzbek are spoken, but also other oriental languages. And now the young couple is thinking of learning Indonesian, and the father says, “when little Youldous is older, I shall tell her Indonesian fables,”
Our best wishes for Youldous’s happiness.
