What diplomats and observers find disturbing is that all the incidents reported in last night's army statement were said to have occurred after the abortive coup of Oct. 1. Terror Observers said it appeared that the Communists — having been the brunt of a Muslim campaign of destruction and arson following the unsuccessful coup —were now fighting back with a terror programme. In its statement the army did not mention the Muslims by name, but simply referred to them as during the coup aftermath, although there have been rumours of brutality in the provinces.
