DJAKARTA, 13 Augustus (Aneta).

They were not allowed to take part, 17 August is a day of mourning
Sobsi and others believe that unitary state is contrary to the Proclamation of 1945 – Nationalist bourgeoisie said to have been "bought off"
DJAKARTA, 13 August (Aneta). – "17 August '50 is for the Indonesian people a day of mourning and at the same time a day on which it takes the oath of allegiance to the 'proclamation of the people of 17 August 1945'," thus is announced in the explanation of the formation of the Panitya Peringatan Proklamasi Rakjat 17 Agustus 1945 [Committee for the Commemoration of the People's Proclamation of 17 August 1945].
In response to the fact that the government has included no representatives of the parties or organisations in the committee for the celebration of the commemoration day of the independence proclamation, a number of organisations, among them the S.O.B.S.I., the Rukun Tani Indonesia, the Front Nasional Pemuda – comprising 14 youth organisations – P.R.R.I. and the women's organisation GERWIS, decided on Friday evening in a meeting in Djakarta to proceed to the formation of the "Panitya Peringatan Proklamasi Rakjat 17 Agustus 1945."
The announcement further says that it is now clear to the people that the nationalist bourgeoisie, bought off by the imperialists, has tried to erase the original content and meaning of 17 August, since – thus the announcement – "on 17 August 1950 next a unitary state à la R.T.C. will be proclaimed, whose content and foundations run counter to those of the Unitary Republic of Indonesia, which was proclaimed by the people on 17 August 1945." And with the establishment of the unitary state à la RTC the Negara Republik Indonesia proclaimed by the people on 17 August is buried. And therefore 17 August 1950 is for the Indonesian people a day of mourning and a day on which it at the same time takes the oath of allegiance to the proclamation of the people of 17 August 1945, the announcement concludes.
Protest against demonstration ban
Meanwhile the Panitya has lodged a protest with the Military Governor of Djakarta Raya against the ban on carrying banners in the 17 August procession with inscriptions that express party or group demands, give offence or call on people to side with any power in the present international political situation, or slogans that are insulting to a certain party.
The Panitya urges that the above-mentioned ban be withdrawn as soon as possible. In argument the Panitya states that the ban in question curtails and tramples on democratic rights, with the result that disappointment and unrest prevail among the people; the people now live indeed in an independent and sovereign country which is based on the Pantja-Sila.
