Surabaya demonstration over the De Vrije Pers wrecking trial
De Nieuwsgier, 25 Aug 1953: in Surabaya the trial opens of 42 students over the April wrecking of De Vrije Pers; thousands of students and pupils demonstrated, with Gerwis, Pemuda Rakjat and SOBSI also taking part, demanding dropped charges, a press law, abolition of Dutch-language use and limits on Dutch dailies. A US Senate report on Soviet espionage is unrelated.
De Nieuwsgier, 25 Agu 1953: di Surabaya dimulai sidang 42 mahasiswa atas perusakan kantor De Vrije Pers bulan April; ribuan mahasiswa dan pelajar berdemonstrasi, dengan Gerwis, Pemuda Rakjat dan SOBSI juga ikut, menuntut pencabutan dakwaan, undang-undang pers, penghapusan bahasa Belanda dan pembatasan harian Belanda. Laporan Senat AS soal spionase Soviet tak terkait.
