Muninggar. „De Gerwis is een geheel afzonderlijke vrouwenorganisatie." (Wel eens van een niet-communistische „Volksdemocratie" gehoord? [Unreadable])

=== [Page 1] === On Sunday the Gerakan Wanita Indonesia Sadar [Gerakan Wanita Indonesia Sedar] (Gerwis) held a meeting at which an explanation was given, among other things, of the reasons why the Gerwis [Gerwis] has adopted "People's Democracy" [Volksdemocratie] as its basis. Miss Moedjiati [Translator's note: name uncertain in OCR] stated in her explanation that the organisation of the association had constantly been obstructed because the Pancasila [Pantjasila] had been taken as the basis. Therefore the basis in future will be [Unreadable] "People's Democracy", so that the statutes of the association will also undergo a change. A following speaker, Miss [Unreadable], stated that the aim and striving of the Gerwis are directed against imperialism and against feudalism but at the founding of a Republic of Indonesia, based on People's Democracy, "as the only guarantee for the realisation of real national independence, democracy, improvement of fortune for all, equal rights for all and world peace". Speaking about the plans of the Gerwis, Miss Muninggar [Muninggar] said that an attempt will be made to organise all women, regardless of religion, status and political conviction, so that they can take an active part in the people's struggle, the formation of a national front for the annulment of the R.T.C. [Round Table Conference] and other agreements from which the people suffer greatly. Miss Muninggar emphatically contradicted the claim that the Gerwis was inspired by a particular political grouping. The Gerwis is the Gerwis and not communist, so Miss Muninggar said. The Gerwis is a completely separate women's organisation. (Ever heard of a "non-communist People's Democracy"? Ed. V.P.)
