DJAKARTA (ANP/Reuter) — The situation on Java is slowly becoming more normal. Of the insurgents 90 percent are said to have been arrested already, so it was learned from Indonesian military circles. Insurgents who for several days occupied various areas of Central Java after the failed coup are said to have fled into the mountains and, owing to the army's action, to have been unable to regroup.
The homes of the leader of the Indonesian communist party, Aidit, and his assistant the party theoretician Njoto, have been plundered by Muslims. The Muslim paper Mimbar Revolusi reported this on Sunday. The demonstrators also plundered the headquarters of the communist women's organisation Gerwani.
Paratroopers have arrested 86 "counter-revolutionaries" who had taken part in the movement of 30 September at Breses in Central Java. The Indonesian army announced this.
In the past week an estimated 1500 to 2000 insurgents have been arrested on Java.
Among the arrested communists are members of the women's movement Gerwani, which is said to be responsible for the torturing to death of the 6 generals. It is not known where Aidit is staying, but usually reliable circles said that Njoto, head of the Djakarta branch of the PKI, was arrested 3 days ago after a chase at his home.
The Indonesian army, which 8 days ago began exercising supervision over Antara, has banned 10 communist papers in Sumatra, Borneo and Celebes that supported the coup. The same happened in Djakarta, where 15 non-communist papers appear daily.
