Chinese people's organisations send telegrams to the relevant Indonesian organisations, warmly congratulating them on the successful opening of the first Games of the New Emerging Forces [GANEFO] Xinhua News Agency, 10th – The Chinese Committee for Afro-Asian Solidarity, the China-Indonesia Friendship Association, the All-China Federation of Trade Unions, the All-China Women's Federation of the People's Republic of China, the All-China Youth Federation and the All-China Students' Federation each sent telegrams to the relevant organisations in Indonesia and to the first Games of the New Emerging Forces, warmly congratulating them on the opening of the first Games of the New Emerging Forces. In a telegram sent on the 9th to the Indonesian Afro-Asian People's Solidarity Organisation, to be forwarded to the first Games of the New Emerging Forces, the Chinese Committee for Afro-Asian Solidarity said: the holding of the Games of the New Emerging Forces reflects the common will and common desire of the peoples of Asia, Africa, Latin America and all newly emerging countries of the world to defend and win national independence, democracy and freedom, and to oppose the high-handed and overbearing conduct of imperialism and old and new colonialism in international sports affairs. The prompt holding of the Games shows that the era in which imperialism and old and new colonialism could arbitrarily manipulate international affairs and decide the fate of the peoples of Asia, Africa, Latin America and all newly emerging countries has gone, never to return. The peoples of the newly emerging countries have the strength not only to win national independence and democratic freedom but also to run all their own affairs well, including sports. In today's world no force can obstruct the friendship and unity among the peoples of the newly emerging countries. We firmly believe that the Games will further promote this friendship and unity and make an active contribution to the development of sport in the newly emerging countries and to the peoples' struggle against imperialism and old and new colonialism and in defence of world peace. Burhan [Burhan Shahidi], President of the China-Indonesia Friendship Association, said in a telegram sent on the 9th to Charuddin [Chaerul? – name uncertain "查禾多"; possibly Prijono/Chaerul Saleh], Chair of the Indonesia-China Friendship Association: the first Games of the New Emerging Forces are a grand review of the sports cause of the newly emerging countries; they will surely further promote its great development and help strengthen friendship and unity between the peoples and athletes of China and Indonesia and other countries. The All-China Federation of Trade Unions, in a telegram sent on the 8th to the All-Indonesian Central Organisation of Trade Unions [SOBSI] and other workers' organisations, said: "We express our high respect for the efforts made by Indonesian workers and people to bring about the holding of the Games of the New Emerging Forces." The telegram congratulated the Games on contributing to the friendship and unity of the peoples of the New Emerging Forces countries, to opposing imperialism and to defending world peace. In a telegram sent on the 9th to the Indonesian Women's Movement Association [Gerwani], to be forwarded to the first Games of the New Emerging Forces, the All-China Women's Federation of the People's Republic of China said: Chinese women pay their highest respects to the Indonesian brothers and sisters who have made an active contribution to the Games of the New Emerging Forces. The telegram wished that the friendship and unity of the peoples and women of Asia, Africa, Latin America and all newly emerging countries be further strengthened through the holding of the Games, and wished the women and people of Indonesia still greater victories in their just struggle against imperialism and colonialism. The All-China Youth Federation and the All-China Students' Federation on the 10th sent telegrams to the Presidium of the Indonesian Central Youth Front, the Presidium of the Federation of Student Organisations, the National Committee of the People's Youth [Pemuda Rakyat] and the University Students' Movement Alliance [CGMI], warmly congratulating them on the successful opening of the Games of the New Emerging Forces and on Heroes' Day, which records the heroic struggle history of Indonesian youth and students, and paying the highest respects to the Indonesian youth and students who have always stood in the front rank of the struggle against imperialism and old and new colonialism and have made an active contribution to the Games of the New Emerging Forces.
