A színük sárga, vörös mintával, melynek a neve: Sárkányvér. A királyok temetkező helye A kagylószedő asszonyok sem ritkák a tenger partján. anyagi feltételein. Szukarno elnök a szívükre kötötte. Szukarno elnök példaképül említette Klara Zetkint, a nőmozgalom nagy alakját. Szívesen hallgattam a melodikus indonéz dalokat. És most eleget teszek kérésüknek. Ezen az úton igyekszem teljesíteni megbízatásomat — eljuttatni Önökhöz az ezer sziget országa asszonyainak forró üdvözletét. Doc. MÁRIA BRENCICOVÁ, A Csehszlovák Nfióízottság Szlovákiai Bizottsága elnökségének tagja. A fő beszámolókban dr. Szukarno elnök, a Nemzeti Front titkára és dr. Szubandri asszony az indonéziai nőmozgalom fontosságát méltatta. A Kongres Wamita Indonézia negyven női szervezetet egyesít. Egyik ilyen szomo9 Next

Dolgozó Nő [Working Woman], 1964 (vol. 13, nos. 1-26) 1964-01-24 / no. 2 [Heading: partly unreadable] FROM INDONESIA The poets named Indonesia the country of a thousand islands, and how apt this name is we can best see when we look out of the window of the aeroplane crossing Indonesia's airspace. I spent only a few days in this wonderfully beautiful country, yet I made many good friends and returned home enriched with many experiences and impressions. I came to Indonesia on the invitation of Dr. Mrs. Subandri [Dr. Subandrio's wife? — see note], Deputy Minister of Health and President of the Kongres Wanita Indonesia [Kowani] (Union of Indonesian Women), who visited our country last September. On 21 December 1963, as the only representative of Czechoslovak women, I took part in the festive session of the Kongres Wanita Indonesia, held on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of the unification of the Indonesian women's movement and the 25th anniversary of the celebration of Mothers' Day. More than a thousand women appeared at the festive gathering, held in Djakarta in the presidential palace. The significance of the gathering was greatly increased by the presence of President Dr. Sukarno and of many ministers, diplomats, and political and public figures. [Translator's note: the name "dr. Szubandri asszony" is as printed in the Hungarian OCR; the identity of the person is uncertain.] The whole proceedings took place in the spirit of completing the revolution as soon as possible. In the main reports, President Dr. Sukarno, the Secretary of the National Front, and Dr. Mrs. Subandri appreciated the importance of the Indonesian women's movement. The Kongres Wanita Indonesia unites forty women's organisations. The speakers described the important tasks that face not only Indonesian women but the whole Indonesian people. One of the most urgent tasks is the earliest possible elimination of the remnants of colonialism. Colonisers are the same in every country: they look only to their own interests and oppress the local population both economically and culturally. So it was in Indonesia too. That is why, even today, besides much that is beautiful and good, we find numerous saddening realities in this lovely and rich country. One such sad sight is the multitude of begging children dressed in rags. One also looks with mixed feelings at the rickshaws speeding through the towns, which replace public urban transport in Djakarta, Palembang and Medan (Sumatra). The Indonesian people try with all their strength and diligence to solve and eliminate the shortcomings and difficulties in economic and cultural life. And this is not a simple task. One is amazed at the enthusiasm, strength of will and tenacity with which the Indonesian people have set about solving their problems. I visited schools in Djakarta and the university in Palembang, where I met many excellent teachers and intelligent pupils. Naturally I spent most of the time in the company of Indonesian women. How could I best characterise them? They regard it as their first task, as the father of the country, Dr. Sukarno, also said, to promote with all their efforts the fulfilment of the great nation-building tasks of the Indonesian people. All women's organisations together support the Indonesian people's endeavours to bring the revolution to an early conclusion. They want to realise as soon as possible the goals of the congress: to secure enough food for every inhabitant and to improve the material conditions of the country. Indonesian mothers want to bring up their children in a patriotic spirit, as President Dr. Sukarno has laid it on their hearts. "Love of the native land, being at one with the homeland, is the force that moves a person to work honestly and perseveringly for the nation's finer, happier future," said President Sukarno. And the women engraved these words, full of feeling, in their hearts. Besides the Indonesian women's movement, much was said at the session about the movement of the women of the world, too. President Sukarno cited Clara Zetkin, the great figure of the women's movement, as an example. It is very important to get to know one another, to exchange experience mutually and to apply what has been learned according to local conditions, because through these the women's movement is consolidated on a world scale. Judging from what I experienced at the congress, I see that our Indonesian sister women are on the right path. At every meeting and discussion afternoon I became convinced that they solve problems resolutely and realistically. The atmosphere of the meetings reflected a cheerful and cordial mood. The sessions ended each time with song and dance. I gladly listened to the melodic Indonesian songs. And since they were curious about our songs too, I was obliged to sing a few songs in my untrained voice, and although my performance was not the most perfect, our songs nevertheless had a great success with the audience. They love us; of this I could convince myself at every step. The idea of progress, peace and friendship binds the relations between the Indonesian and Czechoslovak peoples ever more closely. That is why I felt so much at home among my Indonesian friends. At every gathering they took leave of me with the request that I convey the Indonesian women's cordial greetings at home. And now I fulfil their request. In this way I try to carry out my mandate: to bring to you the warm greetings of the women of the country of a thousand islands. Doc.
