Dutch - Indonesian
Solidarity
On March 25th, the Indonesian women’s _ organization GERWIS, held its National Congress. To this Congress our Indonesian friends invited many delegations from other countries.
The Dutch Women’s Movement, which had received an_ invitation, conducted activity to collect the money necessary for one delegate to make the trip. For this purpose they
organized the sale of a cake of soap bearing the inscription, “For peace and friendship between Indonesian
and Dutch women,” and showing two interlaced hands, a tulip and a rice plant.
At the same time the Dutch Women’s Movement conducted a campaign for friendship with the Indonesian people. Mrs. Umi, member of the Executive Committee of GERWIS, wrote in relation to this:
“This friendship campaign spotlighted the importance of strengthening solidarity between Indonesian and Dutch women and at the same time showed Dutch women their duty to support the demands of the Indonesian people for complete national freedom.”
