The 1965 Coup in Indonesia: The CIA's Version
The 1965 Coup in Indonesia: The CIA's Version (van der Kroef, 1976)
Critical review by Justus M. van der Kroef (Asian Affairs, Nov 1976) of the CIA's declassified 1968 report 'Indonesia-1965: The Coup That Backfired'. Takes issue with the CIA's claim that Lubang Buaya victims were not mutilated and that Gerwani/Pemuda Rakyat confessions were Army-contrived, quoting Gerwani member Djamilah's razor-blade confession (Djakarta Daily Mail, 5 Nov 1965) and arguing torture reports cannot be dismissed. A key example of the mutilation story being defended in scholarship.
Ulasan kritis Justus M. van der Kroef (Asian Affairs, Nov 1976) atas laporan CIA 1968 yang dideklasifikasi, 'Indonesia-1965: The Coup That Backfired'.
“p.120-121: CIA says confessions of PKI youth and women's front members were 'no doubt contrived'; author quotes Mrs. Djamilah, 'a member of ... Gerwani', on razor blades and rejects the CIA's no-mutilation claim as unsourced.”
