PhD dissertation (University of Michigan, 2012) by Andrew Conroe: an ethnography of former political prisoners (eks-tapol) and their children and grandchildren in Yogyakarta, centred on the group Fopperham, on memory, silence and uncertain family histories. Gerwani appears through family accounts and events: Bu Marni, imprisoned at Plantungan, rebuts the Gerwani razor-blade slander to her children (pp. 65-66); Ela's grandmother and Rini and Nuniek's mother were Gerwani prisoners; Syarikat's 2005 reuni of Plantungan women (pp. 114-115); n. 10 (p. 153) explains Gerwani and the slander.
