The only one which did not attend was the region of West Irian. The Formation of the Presidium A presidium assigned to lead the conference was elected whose composition included representatives of the regions, the Cultural Department of the PKI central committee and the politburo. The participants unanimously approved the organization of the presidium which consisted of 17 persons: D.N. Aidit, Njoto, Sudisman, Anwar Kadir, Fanda Harahap, S.W. Kuntjahjo, S. Anantaguna, S. Rukiah, Sujana from West Java, Musajid and Mia Bustam from Central Java, Suroso from East Java, Aziz Akbar from Sumatra, Kanje from Borneo, A. Rachmad from Greater Diakarta, M. Jusmanor from Celebes, and Dupem from the Lesser Sundas. Report of D.N. Aidit This first session heard the report of Central Committee chairman D.N. Aidit which was entitled "Serve the Workers, Peasants, and Soldiers with a Distinctively National Literature and Art". This report consisted of 48 pages broadly discussing problems of revolutionary literature and art. Aidit divided his report into three sections: the history of the integration of revolutionary literature and art with the mass of the working people; serve the workers, peasants and soldiers with a distinctively national literature and art in order to complete the national-democratic revolution and move toward socialism; and the integration of writers and artists with the mass of the working people as a prerequisite to carrying out a correct political line by casting it in a high artistic form. The Counter-revolutionaries Are Angry At the beginning of his report D.N. Aidit noted the existence of persons who are unhappy and angry to see the activities of the PKI. In response to this anger we say, said Aidit, that the PKI never invents stories, the PKI never exaggerates, has never and will never have an excess of energy. The PKI has consciously directed the cultural movement of the people for the past 14 years, that is since LEKRA (Lembaga Kebuda jaan Rakjat, People's Cultural Association) was set up on 17 August 1950. 15
