Women Demonstrate for PKI and Affiliates Ban, Condemn Gerwani (FBIS, 9 Nov 1965)
FBIS Daily Report pages (9 Nov 1965; HathiTrust scans pp.155-157): after a Sukarno-era Heroes Day speech text, ANTARA reports a 30,000-strong demonstration by housewives and girl students from about 30 women's organisations (NU, Perti, Muslim, Christian, Catholic) received by Suharto and Sudibjo. They demanded a PKI and Gerwani ban, condemned Gerwani for 'the brutal slaying' of the generals which 'lowered the prestige of Indonesian women', asked government control of Gerwani schools said to train 'immoral and anti-God' children, and backed Kowani's suspension of Gerwani. Key slander-era source.
Halaman FBIS Daily Report (9 Nov 1965; pindaian HathiTrust hlm.
“p.157: demonstrators 'particularly condemned Gerwani for the brutal slaying of the top army officers which they said had lowered the prestige of Indonesian women' and sought government control of Gerwani schools.”
