Indonesia: Political Detainees in Indonesia (FCO 24/1701, 1973, Folder 5)
FCO 24/1701: Political Detainees in Indonesia (1973)
UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office file FCO 24/1701 (1973), a TNA volume on political detainees in Indonesia. It holds briefing notes, minutes and parliamentary questions on the 1973 State Visit, the Budiardjo case and Amnesty International's campaign, plus a bound copy of Amnesty's 1973 'Indonesia Special'. In that report (pp. 135-143) Gerwani appears through Lies Supit, detained at Bukit Duri for Gerwani work, a Gerwani-linked prisoner 'Mrs S.', and Plantungan women prisoners; it also rebuts the Lubang Buaya sexual-orgy slander.
“Amnesty report p. 135: after the coup a press campaign alleged sexual orgies at Lubang Buaya; Sukarno's requested medical reports found no torture, yet girls such as Sugiyah were forced to sign confessions and sent to Plantungan.”
