Politics in Simalungun: A Study in Political Integration
Politics in Simalungun: A Study in Political Integration (Liddle, 1967)
PhD dissertation (Yale, 1967) by R. William Liddle, a political-science study of local parties and political integration in Simalungun regency and Pematangsiantar, North Sumatra, based on 1963-64 fieldwork. Gerwani appears in a few brief passages in ch. VI: listed among PKI mass organizations (p. 190), given no membership figure in Table 6-1 (p. 197), said to exist 'largely on paper' (p. 199) and to be 'inactive' in Siantar city (p. 205). Wanita Demokrat, the PNI women's wing, is similarly weak.
205). Wanita Demokrat, sayap perempuan PNI, juga lemah.
“p. 199: 'GERWANI, like Wanita Demokrat, existed largely on paper'; Table 6-1 (p. 197): Gerwani and LEKRA figures not available, 'presumed to be low... the author found little evidence of its activity.'”
