FO 371/180324: Attempted Coup against Sukarno [15] (Nov 1965)
UK Foreign Office file FO 371/180324 (1965), 'Attempted coup against Sukarno [15]': telegrams and letters from Djakarta, Washington and Peking, November 1965, plus appended US and Canadian reports. It records Sukarno's Heroes Day speech, Adam Malik's view of the Sukarno-generals stalemate and accounts of 30 September. It repeats the Lubang Buaya slander: an ABRI-released 'confession' of a 15-year-old 'Gerwani' girl describing mutilation of a general (pp. 57-58, 66-67), and a US Embassy airgram stating Gerwani members taunted and tortured the generals (pp. 112, 116).
“pp. 66-67: ABRI bulletin of 5 Nov 1965 prints a girl's 'confession' that 100 Gerwani women were given small knives and razor blades and cut a bound man's private parts; p. 112 US airgram: Gerwani 'taunted' and tortured the generals.”
