Indonesia: a fresh start (South China Morning Post, 26 November 1975)
South China Morning Post, 26 Nov 1975, p.22, Kenneth Whiting (AP), 'Indonesia: a fresh start': ten-year retrospective on the 1965 coup and 'bloodbath' (about 300,000 killed, 100,000 jailed, 20,000 political detainees still held), with oil-led economic recovery. A short passage says women were killed if believed to be party activists; sarongs were stripped and a small 'g' symbol of the communist women's wing on the right thigh meant being slashed to death; girls under 16 were usually spared. Gerwani is not named.
South China Morning Post, 26 Nov 1975, hlm. 22, Kenneth Whiting (AP), 'Indonesia: a fresh start': tinjauan sepuluh tahun peristiwa 1965 dan 'pertumpahan darah' (sekitar 300.000 tewas, 100.000 dipenjara, 20.000 tahanan politik masih ditahan), dengan pemulihan ekonomi berbasis minyak. Satu bagian menyebut perempuan dibunuh jika dianggap aktivis partai; sarung dilucuti dan simbol 'g' kecil sayap perempuan komunis di paha kanan berarti ditebas sampai mati; gadis di bawah 16 tahun umumnya dibiarkan. Gerwani tidak disebut.
“'If a small "g" symbol of the communist women's wing was found on their upper right thigh, they were slashed to death along with the men.'”
