The Forgotten Years: Mass Slaughter in Jombang-Kediri 1965-1966 (Sulistyo, 1997)
Hermawan Sulistyo's 1997 Arizona State history PhD, 'The Forgotten Years', studies the 1965-66 killings in Jombang-Kediri, East Java, from interviews and documents, finding no single national pattern and stressing local conflict and military-backed operations. Gerwani appears in passing: its claimed 1.75 million members (p. 39), its involvement in the Lubang Buaya training and a 29 September 1965 Jombang rally (pp. 46, 155), and the destruction of its Kediri headquarters (p. 184). 'Lubang buaya' was also used as a euphemism for killing sites.
Disertasi sejarah Hermawan Sulistyo (Arizona State, 1997), 'The Forgotten Years', mengkaji pembunuhan 1965-66 di Jombang-Kediri, Jawa Timur, berdasarkan wawancara dan dokumen; ia menemukan tidak ada pola nasional tunggal, dengan penekanan pada konflik lokal dan operasi yang didukung militer. Gerwani muncul sekilas: klaim 1,75 juta anggota (hlm.
“'On 29 September 1965, hundreds members of Pemuda Rakyat, Gerwani, and PKI staged a mass rally in the city of Jombang' demanding lower rice prices and higher wages (p. 155).”
