Harian Rakjat, Daily Newspaper of the Communist Party of Indonesia: Its History and Role (MA thesis, Australian National University, 1983)
Harian Rakjat, Daily Newspaper of the Communist Party of Indonesia (Groves, 1983)
Kerry Groves's ANU MA thesis (1983) on Harian Rakjat, the PKI daily: its stance on press freedom, administration, polemics (e.g. with Merdeka, 1964), content and treatment of leaders, drawing on Indonesian sources and interviews with ex-prisoners. Gerwani appears in Chapter VI (pp.142-149) on the paper's women's column (Ruangan Gerakan Wanita) and short stories, notably Sri Supartini's 'Jang Mendorong Saja Masuk Gerwani' (HR, 8 Oct 1964), showing Gerwani as a vehicle of class consciousness; Gerwani training centres are footnoted.
Tesis MA Kerry Groves (ANU, 1983) tentang Harian Rakjat, harian PKI: sikapnya soal kebebasan pers, administrasi, polemik (misalnya dengan Merdeka, 1964), isi, dan penggambaran para pemimpin, berdasarkan sumber Indonesia dan wawancara dengan bekas tahanan. Gerwani muncul di Bab VI (hlm. 142-149) mengenai rubrik perempuan (Ruangan Gerakan Wanita) dan cerita pendek, terutama 'Jang Mendorong Saja Masuk Gerwani' karya Sri Supartini (HR, 8 Okt 1964), yang menampilkan Gerwani sebagai sarana kesadaran kelas; pusat pelatihan Gerwani dicatat dalam catatan kaki.
“p.148: Sri Supartini's story shows how involvement in a literacy campaign and then Gerwani gave her 'an acute perception of class'; Gerwani acts as 'a catalyst' to politicise women (cf. n.7, training centre).”

Joop Morriën's critical review in De Waarheid (6 June 1979, p.5) of Mochtar Lubis's illustrated history 'Het land onder de regenboog'. He faults its errors and 'virulent anti-communism', says it adopts Suharto's version of 1965, and notes the Madiun 1948 and 1965 killings of communists and Lekra artists' imprisonment.
