Fashioning Authoritarianism: Militarization of Society in Indonesia, 1930-1966
Fashioning Authoritarianism: Militarization of Society in Indonesia, 1930-1966 (Joshua, 2023)
PhD dissertation (Northwestern, 2023) by Norman Joshua on the militarization of Indonesian society, 1930-1966. It argues the Army intervened in non-military affairs through the 'twin logics' of emergency powers and counterinsurgency, culminating in the New Order. Gerwani appears only in passing: p. 428 gives its claimed 1.5 million members in 1963 among PKI-affiliated organizations, and n. 1231 (p. 462) cites Brackman on 3,700 Pemuda Rakyat and Gerwani members trained at Halim. S.K. Trimurti is listed on the National Council (p. 404).
Disertasi doktoral (Northwestern, 2023) karya Norman Joshua tentang militerisasi masyarakat Indonesia 1930-1966. Argumennya: Angkatan Darat masuk ke urusan non-militer melalui 'logika kembar' keadaan darurat dan kontrapemberontakan, hingga lahirnya Orde Baru. Gerwani hanya disebut sekilas: hlm. S.K. Trimurti tercantum di Dewan Nasional (hlm. 404).
“p. 428: in 1963 'the youth and women's organization People's Youth (Pemuda Rakjat) and Indonesian Women's Movement (Gerwani) claimed at least 1.5 million members each'; Pemuda Rakyat were instructed to volunteer for West Irian.”
