Recruitment and Factional Patterns of the Indonesian Political Elite: Guided Democracy and the New Order (PhD thesis, Columbia University, 1976)
Recruitment and Factional Patterns of the Indonesian Political Elite (Gregory, 1976)
Ann Gregory's Columbia PhD thesis (1976) on the recruitment, career patterns and factions of the Indonesian political elite under Guided Democracy and the New Order, based on elite biographies, with chapters on military and civilian factions. It is a quantitative study of Javanese dominance and clientelism. Gerwani is mentioned once (p.511): air force chief Suryadarma's wife was active in pro-PKI bodies including Gerwani. Otherwise no coverage of women's organisations.
Gerwani hanya disebut sekali (hlm. 511): istri Kepala Staf Angkatan Udara Suryadarma aktif dalam organisasi pro-PKI termasuk Gerwani. Selebihnya tidak membahas organisasi perempuan.
“p.511: Suryadarma, a radical nationalist close to Sukarno, had a wife 'active in pro-PKI organizations, such as Himpunan Sarjana Indonesia (HSI)... and Gerakan Wanita Indonesia (Gerwani)'.”
